Way before 'David R Black', singer/guitarist Dave sang in a metal band called The Purple Effect. Like so many bands lost to the mists of time The Purple Effect shone briefly and brightly in the early nineties and were staunchly rock amidst the Madchester and Baggy scene. Labelled as cult heroes, the large following they attracted was rightly deserved and they were championed by many of the city's hip journalists. By 1993 the Purple Effect, whilst touring Germany, were smuggled through checkpoint Charlie in a covered wagon to play what was to be their final show in East Berlin, never to play in Europe or the UK again... until now. They will be reforming for one show and one show alone on Sat 23rd May at the Met Theatre in their hometown of Bury.

As their October tour gets underway, David R Black have just released a limited edition CD through 1000 Watt featuring live songs, acoustic sessions and other rare edits. Only 100 have been made and they have been hand-numbered by Ms Sarit Black herself. They are available here from our shop or from the October gigs for £10.

David R Black are currently working on a new album which will be produced by Joe Gibb (Janes Addiction, Leftfield and Madonna producer) who did the 'Hearts and Stars' album last year. DRB are also putting together a rarities album containing acoustic sessions and prevously unreleased tracks. It should be available from 1000 Watt and from DRB gigs in October.
